There is always a lot happening when it comes to Android development and hacking. Lately we have seen some awesome NAND stuff doing rounds for the HD2 and today some developers at XDA have managed to port a complete Meizu M9 build on their HTC EVO 4G.

For those, who aren’t familiar with Meizu, it is a 1 GHz Cortex A8 CPU based Android phone that has been heavily tweaked to give the best user experience. There are other Android devices with relatively same specs and features, but unique selling proposition of this handset is it’s awe inspiring custom Meizu launcher. This Chinese handset has been primarily released with Android 2.2 Froyo on board and is expected to receive Gingerbread soon. In our opinion, Meizu M9 is the only Android phone whose display can be compared with Apple’s iPhone 4 retina thingy.

Folks over at XDA have managed to extract the Meizu M9 ROM, with all stuff and tweaking on board, and have successfully ported to HTC EVO 4G. Although we can’t really call it a complete and perfect port as it’s a major GSM to CDMA conversion, but most of the ROM features have been reported as working except for the signal.

Here is what the official development thread at XDA says about this port:

hey all, we were working on this for a bit but XxDaLoWeSt1xX beat us to it…so congrats on BOOT!!! not much atm but with my patch its enough to fix everything else…all we need is signal now since its a gsm port to cdma….THIS IS NOT A DAILY DRIVER…this is DEV. the patch i made while i was working on it adds new kernel,32mb dalvic heap, usb, hardware&lighting buttons, and stops random reboot…now we just need the signal and were good…flash the patch over top of the rom. THEN begin to help if you are a DEV. thx
(once again i take no credit for boot, i tried and failed many times alt i just made the patch below)

If you want to download and install this under-development Meizu M9 ROM on your HTC EVO 4G, then join the party at the official ROM Development thread posted here. So far, the ROM, Flash Patch and some other links are available for download and experiment. Our note to novices, like us, is to stay away from this build until it’s complete and has everything working perfectly. We will update this post once the detailed download and install instructions are released.

hey, I used rom manager to install the Meizu M9 Android 2.2 Froyo ROM and probably shouldn’t have. I was already rooted with unrevoked on the evo. it was fine. now I realized that this rom is not for use yet. is there anyway to remove it and return to something functional…old rom, factory reset…anything? I have no servie at all.

I believe you can wipe cache / data and then flash a working Froyo or gingerbread ROM. Here are some EVO 4G ROMs that might help: http://aliwaqas.info/5-best-android-2-2-froyo-latest-ota-roms-for-htc-evo-4g/

Just download the ROM, copy the zip file in SD card root and then use ROM manger for flashing. You can also consult XDA forums if you are stuck up again.
